30%refundable federal credit on commercial solar, storage and heat pumps — what qualifies

Install · Connect · Fund

The equipment your building was told to install, actually installed.

Heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage and ground-source systems for commercial, institutional and residential buildings. Designed, supplied, installed and filed — with the incentive position engineered in from the first drawing, not discovered at the end.

30%refundable, on qualifying commercial projects

Solar PV, battery storage and both air-source and ground-source heat pumps, for property available for use through 31 December 2033. Refundable means cash back, not a deduction against profit. Most installers never mention it.

Does your project qualify for 30%?

Three questions. An honest answer, including when the answer is no.

Incentives stack. Most quotes only count one.

A commercial heat pump project in Ontario can draw on a utility incentive and a federal tax credit at the same time. They are administered by different bodies, on different timelines, with different evidence requirements — which is why they are usually left on the table.

What we install

Three technologies. One contract.

Most buildings need more than one of these, and splitting them across three contractors is how projects lose their interactive savings, their schedule and their incentive eligibility. We carry all three, and one party stays accountable for the result.

01

Heat pumps & HVAC

Electrification, replacement and mechanical upgrade
01 · 01

Commercial air-source heat pumps

Rooftop, split and VRF systems for offices, retail, institutional and multi-residential buildings. Sized against measured load, not against the equipment being replaced.

Save on Energy · up to $18,000 per unit
01 · 02

Rooftop controls & ventilation

Advanced rooftop unit controls and demand-controlled ventilation — the cheapest measured savings in most commercial buildings, and among the best-funded.

Controls to $5,780 · DCV $27 per ton
01 · 03

Residential heat pumps

Cold-climate air-source systems, including hybrid configurations that keep an existing furnace as backup where the economics or the electrical service demand it.

Ducted · ductless · hybrid
01 · 04

Service & maintenance

Planned maintenance on what we install, and on what you already have. Work on gas-fired equipment is carried out by TSSA-registered technicians.

Planned and reactive
02

Solar & storage

Generation, demand management and resilience
02 · 01

Commercial solar PV

Rooftop, ground-mount and carport arrays sized against your consumption profile rather than against available roof area — because Ontario pays credits, not cash.

30% ITC · net metering to 500 kW
02 · 02

Battery storage

Peak shaving against global adjustment and demand charges, and backup where an outage costs more than the battery. Qualifies for the federal credit in its own right.

30% ITC · demand charge management
02 · 03

Grid connection & filing

ESA Notification of Work, inspection, and the net metering application — the micro-generator route under 10 kW, or the embedded generator route with an LDC impact study.

ESA · O. Reg. 541/05
02 · 04

Residential solar

Roof-mounted systems with an honest payback, calculated on the commodity portion of your bill — which is the only part a net metering credit offsets.

Net metering · financing available
03

Ground source

The highest-capital, longest-life option
03 · 01

Commercial & institutional geothermal

Schools, long-term care, municipal and multi-residential buildings, where the load profile and the ownership horizon both favour a ground loop over anything else.

30% ITC · CSA C448 design
03 · 02

Vertical & horizontal loops

Borehole and horizontal field design, thermal conductivity testing, and loop sizing that reflects the building's real annual balance rather than a rule of thumb.

Designed, not estimated
03 · 03

Residential geothermal

For properties with the land and the horizon to justify it. We will tell you plainly when an air-source system would serve you better for a third of the capital.

How the money works

What is actually available, by technology.

Current as of September 2026. Programs change without notice and we confirm every line before a proposal is issued — but this is the shape of it.

Technology
What is available
Where from
Commercial solar PV
30% refundable credit on qualifying property, plus net metering credits against the commodity portion of the bill. Systems to 500 kW.
Federal ITC + O. Reg. 541/05
Battery storage
30% refundable credit. Qualifies independently of the generation it is paired with.
Federal ITC
Commercial air-source heat pumps
Up to $18,000 per unit prescriptive, or custom at $1,800/kW or $0.20/kWh — whichever is higher — to 50% of eligible project cost. Plus the 30% federal credit.
Save on Energy + ITC
Rooftop controls & DCV
Advanced rooftop controls to $5,780. Demand-controlled ventilation at $27 per ton of cooling.
Save on Energy Retrofit
Commercial ground-source
30% refundable credit on the full system, loop field included. The largest single credit available on any building measure.
Federal ITC
Commercial lighting
Moved out of the Retrofit Program on 30 June 2026 and now runs through Instant Discounts.
Save on Energy Instant Discounts
Residential, Ontario
The Home Renovation Savings Program runs to 30 November 2026, and the post-installation submission has to be filed before that date — not just the sale made. Eligibility depends on contractor registration, which we confirm per project.
Ends 30 Nov 2026

The federal credit has a condition almost nobody explains. The full 30% requires a written election at filing: prevailing wage for the classification and location, plus documented effort toward 10% of Red Seal trade hours performed by registered apprentices. Without it the rate is 20%. On a $400,000 project that is a $40,000 decision, and it is made before anyone picks up a tool. How we handle it →

Where we work

Buildings where energy is a line on the budget.

Commercial

Office, retail & industrial

Where demand charges and global adjustment make the meter, not the equipment, the real cost.

Institutional

Schools, care & municipal

Long ownership horizons and predictable load — the profile ground-source was designed for.

Multi-residential

MURBs & portfolios

Central plant replacement, in-suite systems and the metering decisions that follow from both.

Residential

Homes with a real case

Heat pumps and solar where the numbers work. We will say so when they do not.

How we work

One contract. The same crews.

Eneris designs the system, selects and procures the equipment, and manages the installation to commissioning. The work is performed under contract by licensed trades affiliated with us — the same crews, project after project, not whoever is free that week.

01

Assess

1–2 weeks

Site visit, load and consumption review, and the incentive position established before design.

02

Design

2–4 weeks

Equipment selection, layout, electrical capacity check, and loop design where applicable.

03

File

Parallel

Permits, ESA Notification of Work, net metering application and incentive pre-approval.

04

Install

Scheduled

Licensed trades under our contract, with one project manager answering for the schedule.

05

Commission & claim

On completion

Commissioning, inspection sign-off, and the documentation the incentive and the credit require.
